Salem, NH September 4, 2003 – Law Warehouses, one of New England’s oldest and largest distribution companies improves their operational efficiencies through the use of real-time business reporting and analysis tools.

iCentrix developed and deployed a web-based business intelligence application designed to automate the analysis process for determining business profitability.

Billing systems and accounting systems may support overall profitability analysis, but many times a greater level of detail is needed to break down profitability into the different segments of the business. Law had developed some analysis techniques based on the specific characteristics that drive the profitability of their business.

As is typical of business analysis, Microsoft Excel Spreadsheet was the primary tool used by Law. Although Excel is a powerful business tool, it was costly to implement, because of extensive data gathering and data massaging that was required. This process was also limited, because the time it took to gather the data limited how frequently the analysis could be performed and the timeliness of information.

Working closely with Law Warehouses to determine their specific business needs, iCentrix automated the analysis process. Data from multiple sources is automatically extracted and stored in a data warehouse, allowing a real-time, cross organization view of profitability. Automated feeds from two different data warehouse systems were integrated into the data warehouse to capture invoice and revenue information.

Web-based systems for automating the dispatching and scheduling process and creation of driver manifests were developed. The driver manifests are used to collect cost-related information such as delivery times and mileage. This data is then entered back into the data warehouse. In addition to supporting the analysis process, these task-level applications improved the efficiency of business operations.

Interactive web-based reports were developed to support profitability analysis in numerous dimensions, including by account, by store, by driver, by load, and by stop. An interactive user interface allows the analyst to filter the desired information and obtain different data sets to get answers to a wide variety of business questions regarding profitability.
