The challenge
When selecting a technology partner it was important for OFSS.com to find a company that was experienced at building and maintaining complex, high volume, scalable applications and at the same time could deliver a complete e-commerce solution. OFSS.com's demand forecast required high transaction processing out of the box and future scalability. Growth forecasts also predicted that the application will need to evolve as the business grows.

Specific business rules would need to be followed, such as making sure that each customer is shown only the products that are carried by the geographically appropriate dealer. Dealers would need their own branded catalogs, customers will need the ability to register and save their shipping information as well as lists of preferred product option configurations for repeat orders. To help the customers clearly see the difference between Beige and Blush, and Mahogany and Walnut, pictures of options need to be available.

But most importantly it was vital to make sure that the OFSS.com's furniture product option model was properly represented, for example: A desk isn't just a desk, it's a desk that is 66" wide 30" deep and 48" high, has mahogany laminate finish, traditional style edge, with center drawer and a pedestal on the right. A chair comes with choices in fabric and frame color. When buying a table there is base finish, top edge finish, top finish, trim ring color, width, sometimes diameter and sometimes leg finish and laminate finish, and sometimes some of these options cost extra.
